Sooooo I think it’s time for a rest day. Yep, I said it, a rest day. Let me fill you in a little.
About 5 months ago, I was working out, trying to hit my 1 rep max on my dead lift. When I did, I tweaked my back. I gave it a few days, thinking it was nothing, hit the gym again and still hurt. This went on for a couple of months. Fast forward to June, I finally had an MRI and found out that I had a disc protrusion at my L5-S1, my lower back. From there, I went straight to physical therapy and was blessed beyond belief to have a good friend of mine be my therapist. I thank God that my friend has helped me because we share common fitness interests and a common back injury I am thankful that he has helped me the way he has in the 6 weeks because now I’m back to crossfit, although with huge modifications. Hey! I’ll take it! I was stuck pretty much with running, which 5 years ago, I would’ve had no problem with, but now I’ve come to LOVE getting STRONGER!
Back to present day. I’ve been so excited to workout again that I have not stop! As soon as I got the go ahead to jump back in, I don’t think I’ve had a rest day. So today, because my body hurts and I need it, I’m going to take a rest day.
Did you know that rest days are even more important than your workout days? During rest days, your body recovers and repairs all of the microtears that have happened during your previous workouts. Rest days are actually when your body gets stronger. Yes, REST DAYS ARE WHEN YOUR BODY GETS STRONGER!
Sometimes it’s so hard for me to take a rest day and other days I’d like to take a few in a row. 🙂 Working out every day is not good for your body. You have to let your muscles recover. That, my friends is when stuff happens!
You can bet that I’m also going to be slathering the Soothing Blend of Essential Oils all over my sore muscles to help rid some of the soreness. This stuff is the bomb dot com. Check out my essential oils section at the top of my blog for more information or just email me directly!
Today’s rest day will probably include a long walk pushing my 2 year old in the stroller. This will help get some of that lactic acid out of my muscles so I will be able to get out of bed in the morning. *sigh*
Here is a little article from LiveStrong on rest days and why they are important!
Happy rest day y’all!!!
